Birmingham police release body-worn camera footage of officer-involved shooting

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police Department Chief Michael Pickett held a press conference Friday to discuss the officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of 36-year-old Vanessa Ragland.

According to Chief Pickett, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Brunson Avenue just after 5 p.m.

Pickett stated that upon arrival, an officer attempted to diffuse a verbal altercation taking place between a male and a female at the residence. The officer attempted to separate the two parties involved in the altercation to begin an investigation on what was perceived as a domestic violence incident…
