Alabama body camera law sets procedures for video release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A law that took effect Oct. 1, 2024, establishes procedures for how law enforcement agencies handle body camera video requests, including when footage can be released.

The legislation was written by Alabama State Rep. Juandalynn Givan. The law designates the agency with physical custody of body camera video as the “custodial,” though custody can be transferred.
