Local Businesses and City Join Forces to Support Birmingham Residents Impacted by SNAP Suspension

In Birmingham, local business leaders are supporting residents affected by the recent suspension of SNAP benefits during the government shutdown. Mayor Randall L. Woodfin called for community assistance, prompting several business owners to contribute. David Dyer, CEO of Harvest, a medical waste management company, donated $12,500. He said it is important to help the community during difficult times.

Other business leaders also made donations. Keith and Caitlyn Graham gave $5,000 on November 3. Rashada LeRoy, CEO of LRY, contributed $4,000 on November 5. LeRoy, who used food stamps as a child, said many Birmingham families still need this support.

The City of Birmingham is working with United Way of Central Alabama to provide extra SNAP benefits. On November 4, the Birmingham City Council approved $1 million for this effort. Mayor Woodfin thanked those who have contributed and said community support is important…
