Man convicted of killing Albertville police officer in 1996 dies

JEFFERSON CO., Ala. (WAFF) – A man convicted of capital murder for killing an Albertville police officer died in prison while serving his life sentence.

The Jefferson County coroner said Larry Wayne Whitehead died on November 9.

He was an inmate at William Donaldson Correctional Facility from a 1996 murder conviction which police Detective Andy Whitten was killed.

Whitehead was in the prison infirmary when he had to be taken to UAB Hospital on October 31 for treatment of complications of a natural disease…
