Birmingham experienced a violent weekend with three people killed in separate shootings on Saturday and another man wounded in a shooting on Sunday. Despite the violence, city data indicates that violent crime is trending downward compared to this time last year.
The first incident occurred around 10 a.m. Saturday in Collegeville on 32nd Street North. Birmingham police reported that 30-year-old Anson Henderson was shot and killed on his front porch following a domestic dispute. Officers quickly apprehended 26-year-old Brittney Watson of Brighton, who was attempting to leave the scene. Watson is charged with murder and firing a gun into an occupied dwelling and remains in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
Later Saturday afternoon, around 3:15 p.m., police responded to a ShotSpotter alert at Ensley Park. En route, officers encountered a vehicle at Fire Station #16 with two male gunshot victims inside. 18-year-old Myca Clark Jr. of McCalla later died at UAB Hospital. Investigators stated that he and another man were at the park when a shooting erupted. A 16-year-old has been arrested for the shooting death of Clark.
