BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Highway 280 is preparing for a weekend-long shutdown at Pumphouse Road as ALDOT reaches a major milestone in its US-280 widening project. The closure, which begins Friday at 11 p.m., is expected to cause significant delays throughout the Birmingham metro area — especially with thousands of shoppers heading to The Summit.
The Alabama Department of Transportation will set the first girders for the new Pumphouse Road Bridge. The 100-foot steel beams must be installed across the width of the highway, requiring a full closure for crews to work safely.
