Homewood fire personnel extinguish fire at Skyline Village retirement community

HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — The Homewood Police Department reported that police and fire personnel responded to a structure fire Saturday at a retirement community.

According to Homewood police, the fire occurred at the Skyline Village retirement community at 260 Goodwin Crest Drive. Police stated that the fire has been extinguished and the building has been evacuated. Police and fire units remain at the scene.

Police said no injuries have been reported.

“Our thoughts are with the residents of Skyline Village Retirement Home and their families following tonight’s fire,” the American Red Cross of Alabama said in a statement. “Red Cross teams are on scene, working closely with local officials to assist those who have been displaced. We are providing comfort and support as response efforts continue.”…
