BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A Birmingham city councilor is raising concerns about contracts the city has with Urban Alchemy.
The homeless assistance organization has received millions of dollars from the city for homeless support services. A city council agenda item Tuesday proposed an additional $1.7 million for Urban Alchemy. The money would be used for homeless outreach, hygiene and housing.

The mayor took the item off the agenda before the council could vote on it, which councilor Hunter Williams said was the right decision.
“I think that my conversations with other providers in that space, in the nonprofit space that are more name-brand Birmingham names, have shared some concerns with me,” Williams said. “I have some concerns with the reporting that has been done in terms of how effective is that? I have concerns over are we seeing progress?”…
