Man who held gun to toddler’s head gets life in prison for violent robberies of Hispanic people

A 40-year-old man will spend the rest of his life in prison for a string of violent robberies targeting Hispanic people in Birmingham in 2018 that included him putting a gun to a toddler’s head and shooting a dog.

A Jefferson County jury convicted Darius Monterro Williams of five counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree kidnapping, and one county each of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and animal cruelty.

Jefferson County Circuit Judge Shanta Owens sentenced Williams to life without parole in each of the robbery convictions, 20 years on the kidnapping and gun convictions and one year for the animal cruelty conviction…
