FULTONDALE, Ala. (WBRC) – A Fultondale family received help from volunteers on Tuesday after a tree crashed through their roof. Storms moved through the area early Tuesday morning.
The Herrera family was awakened by strong winds then a tree came through the roof of their home. Paola Herrera was in the room where the tree fell. She immediately went to check on her daughter Jasbeydi, who was sleeping in another room with a cousin.
“They started feeling strong wind and they started feeling like their house was moving,” Jasbeydi Herrera said, translating for her mother. “She got me and my cousin, that was there sleeping with me, and we came out, and we saw that the kitchen roof was broken too.”
Israel Gonzalez saw on Facebook that the Herreras needed help and left work to assist with cleaning debris and covering the roof.
“You gotta keep going and help each other,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez worked to place covers and tarps on the roof to help the family stay in their home…
