Free climber falls 30 feet at Ruffner Mountain, in stable condition

A free climber fell 30 feet while climbing at Ruffner Mountain Nature Center and is now in stable condition, according to Birmingham Fire and Rescue. The incident occurred near the quarry, about one and a half to two miles into the nature center.

Battalion Chief Brian Anderton of the Irondale Fire Department said they received a call to Ruffner Mountain Nature Center on free climber who had fallen while hiking and climbing with a group of friends.

Emergency crews from Birmingham Fire and Irondale Fire responded to the scene at 12:30 p.m. and safely removed the climber without further injuries. The climber was transported to a local hospital by helicopter due to weather exposure and the duration he was down…
