Alabaster man charged with elder abuse

An Alabaster man is accused of recklessly causing serious physical injury to an elderly person earlier this month.

47-year-old Daniel Shea Smith has been charged with second-degree elder abuse and neglect. The alleged incident happened on Nov. 19. A Shelby County judge found probable cause and issued a warrant for his arrest, which was executed on Nov. 21 by an Alabaster Police detective. Smith was then booked into jail.

The court has set Smith’s bond at $30,000, with a mandatory condition of no contact with the victim…
