BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — The Negro Southern League Museum, in partnership with Jefferson County District 2 Commissioner Sheila Tyson, will host an event titled “Forgotten Heroes of the Birmingham Industrial League: Oscar ‘Butler’ Williams” on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Jefferson County Courthouse in downtown Birmingham.
The event will feature the unveiling of a new exhibit celebrating Williams, a standout player, coach, and manager in Birmingham’s Industrial League for over 50 years. A public reception with complimentary food and refreshments will follow from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. outside the Jefferson County Commission Chambers. The program is free and open to the public.
Williams, a Miles College Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, played a key role in Birmingham’s Industrial Leagues, which helped bridge local Black baseball talent to the Negro Leagues and, eventually, Major League Baseball.
