Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office collaborating with Women Under Construction Network for program supporting incarcerated women

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is collaborating with the Women Under Construction Network (WUCN) to launch a new advocacy and reentry initiative for incarcerated women.

The program provides participants with tools and encouragement needed for their futures through mentorship, education and advocacy.

“As sheriff of Jefferson County, my top priority is public safety, which is directly impacted bymy ability to reduce recidivism among individuals – men and women leaving the JeffersonCounty Jail,” Sheriff Mark Pettway said in a statement. “I am deeply committed to supporting programs like WUCN that equip women with the skills and support they need to successfully reintegrate into society.”…
