BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department announced that it has earned accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement without conditions for the first time since 2016.
According to the BPD, a CALEA accreditation without conditions means the agency is fully compliant with all applicable standards, and it has passed all assessments and reviews.
“Today, we reaffirm to our community that the Birmingham Police Department not onlymeets but exceeds the most rigorous national standards for law enforcementprofessionalism,” Chief Michael Pickett said in a statement. “Earning CALEA accreditation withoutconditions is more than a credential, it’s a promise that we will continue to deliverservice and justice with integrity, consistency, and the utmost respect for the citizens weserve.”…
