New Grocery Store Coming to Southwest Birmingham to Improve Local Access to Healthy Food

The City of Birmingham is working to improve access to healthy food in its southwest region. This week, the Birmingham City Council approved Mayor Randall L. Woodfin’s proposal to partner with Carver Jones Market, LLC. The plan will establish a new grocery store at 833 Dennison Avenue Southwest in the Heritage Park Towne Center. The site was previously occupied by Save A Lot and will be converted into a 10,000-square-foot market.

Carver Jones Market will provide fresh produce, meats, dairy, snacks, and a pharmacy. The goal is to meet the daily needs of local residents. The city will support the project with incentives up to $850,000. This includes $600,000 for healthy food initiatives and a performance-based sales tax abatement of up to $125,000 per year.
