Birmingham Residents Shape Plans for Civil Rights Corridor Improvements in 2025

As 2025 ends, the Birmingham Civil Rights Crossroads Project reports strong community participation. This year, residents, business owners, faith leaders, and other stakeholders joined efforts to plan changes to Birmingham’s historic corridors.

The project held two Community Studio Weeks. The first took place from June 10 to 14 at Legion Field. It drew 130 participants who discussed safety, connectivity, and ways to honor the city’s Civil Rights history. The second Studio Week was held from August 25 to 29 at the Carver Theater. It brought together 160 people to review design ideas for streets such as Graymont Avenue and 16th Street North.

Organizers also collected feedback through 134 survey responses and 32 pop-up events at local meetings, festivals, and city events. In total, 296 conversations and interviews were conducted to gather a range of opinions…
