BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – FIRST ALERT WEATHER: We have declared Sunday into Monday morning as First Alert Weather Days for dangerously cold air spilling into Alabama.
A Cold Weather Advisory will take effect this evening at 6 p.m. and remain in effect through 7 a.m. on Monday. Wind chills will be in the lower teens to single digits. You’ll need to plan now. Bring in pets, plants, people and protect pipes from this dangerous cold.
THE NEXT 24 HOURS: Just after midnight, the temperature in Birmingham was 60 degrees. At 6 a.m., temperatures are in the upper 30s with wind chills already dropping a few communities into the upper teens. Wind gusts today out of the north at 20 to 30 mph will keep the wind chill all day in the 20s, and we will see good sun!
Monday morning will be dangerously cold. We are forecasting lows in the teens with single-digit wind chills along and north of Highway 278. Hypothermia and frostbite are concerns if you plan to spend time outside with exposed skin. Bundle up!
THE NEXT BIG THING: The good news is that this blast of cold air won’t last too long. We will drop back into the low to mid-20s on Tuesday morning, but the wind out of the south will allow a significant warm-up for the middle and end of next week…
