New homeless shelter in Birmingham gets $1 million boost from city

The Birmingham City Council on Tuesday approved a plan to contribute $1 million towards the construction of a new emergency shelter at the Jimmie Hale Mission.

The city will contribute $250,000 a year for four years, according to the item passed Dec. 16.
