Alabama DHR introduces chip-enabled EBT cards for enhanced security

The Alabama Department of Human Resources has begun distributing new chip-enabled EBT cards to enhance security for SNAP and TANF benefits.

The pilot program is currently underway in 11 counties, including Chilton, Coosa, Autauga and Shelby, and will last 30 to 45 days.

Commissioner Nancy Buckner expressed satisfaction with the initiative, stating, “This change has been in the works for a long time and to see it finally come to fruition is incredibly rewarding knowing our EBT clients’ benefits will be better protected.”…
