BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Monday, the Central Alabama Water Board voted to remove the HUB (Historically Underutilized Businesses) policy dedicated to inclusivity of minority and underutilized businesses after a four to two vote.
“In order to comply with Alabama law, we are directed to operate this utility in the most efficient manner possible,” said Central Alabama Water Board Chairman, Jeff Thompson. “As a result of having the most efficient operation possible, we need to have the greatest competition possible. And so, with additional competition comes better pricing.”
