Birmingham drivers benefit from falling gas prices, lowest seasonal rates in years

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — Drivers across the Birmingham metro are getting a bit of relief at the pump as gas prices continue to fall heading into late December.

According to GasBuddy, the average price of gasoline in Birmingham dropped 7.6 cents per gallon over the past week, bringing the current average to $2.53 per gallon. That’s 15.2 cents cheaper than a month ago and 18.6 cents lower than this time last year.

Prices vary widely across the metro. GasBuddy reports the cheapest station in Birmingham was selling gas for $2.22 per gallon, while the most expensive topped out at $2.89 per gallon, a spread of 67 cents. Across Alabama, prices ranged from a low of $2.13 per gallon to a high of $3.39, a difference of more than $1.25 per gallon…
