Jefferson County commissioner hosts community event before Christmas

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — One Jefferson County commissioner spent Monday morning giving back to the community she serves.

Lashunda Scales hosted the second Holiday Blast at the Roebuck Walmart. Santa Claus helped hand out over 300 food boxes to families. Organizers also handed out gifts to those waiting in line.

“What we’re doing is bringing the community together,” Scales said. “We never want anyone to feel like they are without, and we want them to be reminded that they do matter.”
