Hueytown 5th grader remains critical as family prays for recovery after sudden downturn

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A Hueytown Intermediate School 5th grader remains in critical condition after his family says complications from a severe case of the flu took a devastating turn overnight.

11-year-old Jace Watkins is hospitalized as doctors work to determine the next steps in his care. His grandparents say his condition worsened late Tuesday night when he began experiencing seizures and briefly flatlined.
