BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Majors Karen and Robert Lyle are retiring from their leadership roles with the Salvation Army in Birmingham after years of disaster relief work and community service.
The decision comes after Robert Lyle underwent triple bypass surgery for heart issues two years ago, prompting doctors to recommend he slow down his activities.
“Robert found out that he had some heart issues. And they immediately did triple bypass surgery on him,” Karen Lyle said. “The doctors said, you know, Robert, it’s necessary. I mean, it’s absolutely necessary. So that has been just the hardest thing is not being involved in the way that we have in the past.”
