BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Happy Sunday! We get to enjoy one more day of spring-like weather. It’s been cloudy, muggy, and foggy in spots across central Alabama. Temperatures remain well above average in the mid to upper 60s. A passing shower or pockets of mist/drizzle remains possible this afternoon as we remain in this muggy setup. We’ll likely remain mostly cloudy today with highs in the lower 70s. It will end up a little breezy today with southwest winds at 10-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. If you have any evening plans, we’ll remain cloudy with temperatures cooling into the mid to upper 60s by 7 p.m. CST. Our best chance for rain will likely arrive overnight and into the early morning hours of tomorrow as a strong cold front moves through the state.
Rain arrives tonight: A strong cold front is forecast to move through Alabama tonight. A line of showers will likely push through central Alabama between 10 p.m. CST tonight through 8 a.m. CST Monday. Plan for rain and winds gusting up to 25-30 mph as the cold front pushes through. Severe weather is not expected, but you may hear a few rumbles of thunder. Temperatures will dramatically drop behind the cold front with most of us in the 30s and 40s on Monday morning. When you factor in the wind, it could feel like it is near freezing. You’ll definitely want to wear your winter clothes tomorrow. Rain should be out of our area by 8-9 a.m. CST leaving us with a mostly cloudy to partly cloudy sky. Temperatures Monday afternoon will likely remain in the low to mid 40s with northwest winds at 10-20 mph. Winds could gust up to 25 mph.
If you are planning on attending the Birmingham Bowl Monday afternoon at Protective Stadium, I highly encourage you to wear a heavy coat and grab the gloves. The wind will make it feel like it is in the mid 30s.
Freezing temperatures return Tuesday: We want to give you a first alert for a deep freeze Tuesday morning. Temperatures will likely drop into the low to mid 20s. When you factor in northerly winds at 5-10 mph, it could feel like it is in the teens. Make sure you bring your pets inside and protect any sensitive plants. We should see plenty of sunshine on Tuesday afternoon. Highs are forecast to warm into the upper 30s and lower 40s.
Cool and dry start to 2026: Dry and cool weather will continue as we make our way into New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Freezing temperatures will be likely again Wednesday morning with most of us back in the low to mid 20s. Winds will be light Wednesday morning, so the windchill will not be a factor. Temperatures will likely rebound into the upper 40s and lower 50s Wednesday afternoon with a mostly sunny sky. If you plan to be out Wednesday night for New Year’s festivities, we should remain dry with temperatures dropping into the 40s and 30s. We’ll likely wake up in the upper 20s and lower 30s on New Year’s Day. Thursday afternoon will likely remain mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 50s…
