HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — Some Birmingham-area residents started the new year by helping others.
The American Red Cross held a blood drive at the Homewood Public Library on Friday. The organization issued a call for donors of all blood types at the end of 2025 to prevent a drop in the blood supply.

One donor said he’s seen first hand how blood donations save lives.
“My wife received an emergency blood transfusion a few years ago that saved her life,” Caleb Wilson said. “So since then, it’s been a big part of my life to make sure I consistently donate because it can save other people’s lives.”…
