First Alert Weather: Fog likely Monday morning

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – We’ll stay partly to mostly cloudy tonight. With the cloud cover hanging around, temperatures won’t drop nearly as much as they did this morning. Patchy fog could show up first thing tomorrow, especially in low-lying areas. I expect morning lows to settle into the upper 30s to lower 40s.

By late morning, southerly winds will kick in, and that’ll help temperatures climb well above average for early January—by about 5 to 10 degrees. Tomorrow should finish partly to mostly cloudy with highs landing in the low to mid 60s.

Spring-like stretch ahead: The warmer pattern looks locked in for much of the week thanks to persistent southerly flow. Afternoon highs could push into the upper 60s and even the lower 70s from Tuesday through Friday. I don’t see any freezing temperatures in the forecast over the next seven days. Morning lows will generally be in the 40s and 50s—running 10 to 20 degrees above normal for this time of year. Right now, our next realistic shot at freezing temperatures appears to be next Monday, January 12th.

Cloud cover will likely outnumber sunshine this week, and patchy morning fog will be a possibility each day. There’s also a small chance for a few sprinkles or light showers Tuesday night and again on Thursday…
