Birmingham councilor challenges incumbent for Jefferson County Commission seat

Birmingham City Councilman Clinton Woods is seeking a seat on the Jefferson County Commission, representing District 1, he confirmed on Monday, the first day of qualifying for 2026 elections.

The seat is currently held by Lashunda Scales, whom Woods succeeded as the council’s district 1 representative in a 2019 special election when she was elected to the commission.

“I decided to run for Jefferson County Commission because I believe residents deserve leadership that listens, collaborates, and gets results,” said Woods. “I’ve spent most of my life serving people and solving problems, and I wholeheartedly believe that my knowledge, experience, and skill set have prepared me to contribute in a way that will strengthen the entire county.”…
