JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — A Birmingham grandmother, Jacqueline Johnson, is raising her 8-year-old twin grandchildren in an apartment she claims is making her family sick. Johnson described severe water damage, sewage flooding, and persistent mold-like odors in her Clay Chalkville Apartments unit.
“It’s in the walls… in all the walls,” she said, detailing how water poured through her ceiling, damaging her belongings and forcing her family to temporarily relocate.
“This has put a terrible strain on us because I’ve lost a lot of items through all the issues I’ve had. we had to leave. I had to leave when the sewage came in, we had to go stay in a hotel, then Christmas, no Christmas because we had to leave. We couldn’t stay here. We had to go out of town in order to have a place to stay because I didn’t have anywhere else to go,” Johnson said…
