Birmingham, Ala. – Valentine’s Day isn’t always about roses, chocolates, and romance. For some, it brings back memories of relationships that didn’t quite go as planned. This year, Birmingham Zoo is giving the community a fun, lighthearted way to celebrate all kinds of past relationships—by naming a cockroach after an ex.
For a minimum donation of $20, participants can name a Madagascar hissing cockroach in honor of a former flame (or anyone they choose) as part of the Zoo’s Valentine’s Day fundraiser. “Name a Roach” is a playful way to let go, have a laugh, and support a great cause at the same time.
Each donor will receive a digital Certificate of Naming and cockroach fact sheet, perfect for sharing with friends or displaying proudly for the holiday. First names only will be featured on the infamous Cockroach Naming Window at the entrance of the Zoo. To be included on the display, donations must be submitted by end of day February 12. The naming board will be unveiled on February 14, with photos shared across the Zoo’s social media channels…
