Birmingham, Ala. (WIAT) –The latest data from the Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office shows at least 290 fewer people have died from drug overdose in Jefferson County since 2023. This is data CBS 42 received from the Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s office on Jan. 9:
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Jefferson County still has cases pending certification for 2025. CBS 42 asked Yates how he would characterize the overdose death rate from 2024-26.
Yates said 2025 is “…the second year of decrease from our highest recorded year in 2023.”…
