BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Former Jefferson County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jude Washington is suing Sheriff Mark Pettway for wrongful termination and violation of due process. Washington also claims Pettway authorized investigations into bingo halls that weren’t affiliated with his brother.
Washington, who is now running against Pettway in the Democratic primary for Jefferson County sheriff, was fired, reinstated by the Personnel Board, then later resigned from his position at the sheriff’s office.
According to the lawsuit, Pettway told Washington in 2022 to investigate illegal gaming at eight bingo halls. Those eight facilities were eventually shut down…
