BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A major awareness and fundraising effort is underway Wednesday night in downtown Birmingham as Perryn Carroll, the executive director of Jimmie Hale Mission, spends the night outdoors to highlight the realities of homelessness and launch a new shelter expansion campaign.
Carroll will begin her overnight stay Wednesday as part of an initiative called Out in the Open, designed to draw attention to what hundreds of Birmingham’s unhoused residents experience every night.
