If you’re on the hunt for some outdoor fun in the Birmingham area, Oak Mountain is a must-visit. If you find yourself and your family not wanting to leave at the end of the day, why not try camping there? Camping at Oak Mountain State Park is sure to be a wonderful experience, packed full of great memories for the whole family!
We know moms are always safety-conscious, so here’s a quick note on the typical safety measures in the park. Security personnel make regular patrols. Cabins
If you like the idea of camping but are more the “glamping” type, this option might be perfect for you! The cabins at Oak Mountain State Park can be reserved up to one year in advance. Two dog friendly cabins are available upon request, as well as one ADA compliant cabin. Cabins have two bedrooms with 1- King bed and 2-Queen beds, one bath, a kitchenette, central heat and air, porch, grill and picnic table. The cabin lake is for cabin guests only, and a limited number of boats are available for use.
Camping On the Campground
Oak Mountain State Park offers five different camping options. Campgrounds include a picnic table, tent pad, grill, lantern hook and fire ring. There are two bath houses, restrooms, off leash dog park, playground, two laundry facilities, and a pavilion/activity building. Security personnel make regular patrols to ensure guests’ safety. 1. RV Camping
RV sites offer water, electricity, and sewer options. There is also the option for only water and electric.
2. Primitive Camping
For those wanting to camp in a tent while still being part of a campground, primitive campsites are available. You an choose to have water and electricity or only water.
3. Backcountry Camping
For those who prefer to camp off the beaten path, backcountry camping is a fantastic opportunity! It is limited to eight people max and you must purchase a trail map. FIRES ARE PROHIBITED IN THE BACKCOUNTRY AT ALL TIMES. Each backcountry site is marked on the trail map, and it’s recommended you bring drinking water, although you can filter the wet weather stream water in the park.
4. Camping
The Equestrian campground is in the heart of Oak Mountain. It has 12 sites; each site accommodates eight people, two vehicles, and one trailer. Horse stalls are also available for your horses, here. All sites have 50-amp service, water and sewer hook ups, a dump station for horse waste, fire rings, and picnic tables. Water hydrants are located at the horse stalls. A current negative Coggins test is REQUIRED for any horse entering the park.
