This famous 122-year-old iron statue has its elevator working again for visitors tired of walking up 159 stairs

Last year, if you wanted to look out over Birmingham from its most famous overlook, the Vulcan statue observation tower at Vulcan Park, you had to be ready to climb the stairs.

The elevator was out of order through most of the year, but was repaired at the end of 2025 and is now operational again.

Visitors had been prohibited from going up in the elevator or climbing the stairs of the tower to the observation deck from June 5, 2023, through March 15, 2024, while the tower was closed for nine months for weatherizing and repairs…
