This past week, 10 new building permits were issued statewide for construction projects exceeding $1 million, with the majority of them for projects in North Alabama.
The largest of all of these permits, however, is in Jefferson County, where a $27 million permit was issued for the Smucker’s plant in McCalla.
Smucker’s facility to expand in McCalla
The J.M. Smucker Co. opened its McCalla facility in November of 2024, producing the popular Uncrustables product. The company has committed $1.1 billion to the project, which was presented in three phases.
This recent permit, for $27 million, includes a 4,150-square-foot addition to the plant. The Dennis Group out of Massachusetts is the lead contractor on this project.
