Birmingham woman charged with reckless manslaughter after striking, killing pedestrian with vehicle

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A Birmingham woman has been arrested, according to court records, after she hit and killed a pedestrian while driving under the influence.

According to court records, Matina Latraice Poole struck and killed 62-year-old Robert James Meeks on May 31, 2025 at 1:41 a.m. in Birmingham. Officials say Meeks was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle that was driven by Poole and died from blunt force trauma.

Court records say Poole was “operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or THC” and that she has been charged with manslaughter-reckless…
