Pilot Rescues College Students Trapped By Mississippi Ice Storm

Last week, a Birmingham, Alabama, business owner used his helicopter to help rescue college students stranded by winter weather in Oxford, Mississippi. David Upton, who owns Craneworks, flew to Oxford after a storm left his friend’s daughter and her roommates without power. A fallen tree had damaged their home, making it unsafe for them to stay there.

Upton transported the students by helicopter after they made their way to the airport in freezing temperatures because the university doesn’t allow aircraft to land on campus. The students had been stranded for two days without electricity and told Upton they were relieved to get to warmth and safety. The flight allowed them to return home despite icy road conditions…
