Birmingham police chief says department is entering 2026 with momentum, plan to keep it

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – During a news conference Tuesday, Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett emphasized public safety while laying out how the department plans to build on last year’s crime reductions and focus more aggressively on areas that remain a concern, particularly property crime.

“We’re moving in the right direction and we want to keep pressing in that right direction,” Pickett said.
