The sheriff’s office for Alabama’s largest county made late deposits and failed to properly document the flow of money through its financial accounts, according to a public audit.
The state’s financial watchdog agency reviewed the financial books at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, overseen by Sheriff Mark Pettway who is now running for a third term, and published its findings in an audit last fall.
