BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Two Jefferson County residents were indicted in a scheme to straw purchase firearms, U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona announced.
Habonisun Chaverst, 28, of Center Point, and Keonna Cephus, 38, of Birmingham, were charged with conspiracy to straw purchase firearms and submit false information on ATF Form 4473. Cephus was also charged with making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm.
Between October and November 2024, Chaverst reportedly conspired with Cephus to purchase six firearms from a federally licensed firearms dealer.
