BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The Birmingham Police Department continues to move closer to full staffing as experienced officers from other agencies join the department through its lateral transfer program.
Police Chief Michael Pickett this week swore in seven lateral transfers from departments across the region. Lateral transfers are officers who already have law enforcement experience and move from one department to another.
At the end of 2025, Pickett said the department was just six positions short of full staffing, putting it at 99% capacity. He said officers from other agencies continue to show strong interest in Birmingham…
