Hoover man charged with attempting to murder 2 police officers

HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — A Hoover man is charged with attempting to murder two police officers Sunday morning.

According to court documents filed Wednesday, 38-year-old Asa Redd Griggs fired a handgun at two Hoover officers. Griggs allegedly struck one of the officers in the torso area.

Hoover Police Chief Clay Morris said officers responded around 7:49 a.m. Sunday to a house in the 2000 block of River Lake Drive on a report of a mentally disturbed person. Morris said when officers arrived, the suspect brandished a handgun at a family member standing nearby and started firing.

Hoover police alleged Sunday that the suspect shot a family member. The Shelby County Croner’s Office stated that Glenn Adrian Griggs, 71, died in the shooting. No charges, however, have been filed in Glenn Griggs’ death…
