Birmingham Airport Authority donates vehicle to Oneonta Fire and Rescue

ONEONTA, Ala. (WBRC) – The Birmingham Airport Authority (BAA) transferred a retired Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV) to Oneonta Fire and Rescue Thursday, Feb. 12.

The donated RIV includes fire suppression equipment and storage space for medical equipment and supplies. The vehicle will be stationed at Oneonta Municipal Airport at Robbins Field for emergency response at the airport and in the community.

“It’s rewarding for us to know that this vehicle will enhance Oneonta’s emergency response capabilities,” said Cameron Thompson, Vice President of Operations at BAA. “These vehicles play an important role during emergencies, giving firefighters the capability to arrive at the scene more quickly and begin the work of saving lives.”

The BAA replaced the retiring RIV with a new Quick Response Vehicle, a Ford F550 4×4 diesel with built-in fire suppression equipment. The new QRV stores medical equipment that allows the Airport Rescue Firefighting team to begin life-saving measures immediately upon arrival at a scene…
