Cahaba Valley Fire Department (CVFD) responded to a structure fire just before 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9. Upon arriving at 700 Brook Highlands Apartments, crews found fire and smoke in one of the units. E181 used a handline hose to maneuver through through the low visibility within the apartment and extinguish the high-temperature flames.
Additional crews supported the CVFD by helping evacuate, ventilating units filled with smoke and checking surrounding apartments for fire extension. The apartment below the affected unit did have a small fire inside, but it was quickly extinguished.
The two residents of the apartment are the only people that have been displaced by the fire. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation…
