Huffman High School students build first solar-powered tiny house

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Huffman High School’s Academy of Architecture and Construction students have built their first solar-powered tiny house.

“This is our fourth tiny house, but it’s our first solar-powered tiny house,” said Dr. Mark Sullivan, Superintendent of Birmingham City Schools. “We know that as we move into the future, we’re moving away from fossil fuels, and we’re looking at more alternative fuel sources and solar is one of those.”

The 300-square-foot tiny house offers a galley kitchen, a full bathroom and a loft. The 2,400 watts generated by the solar panels will help power the stove top, the water heater and an air conditioning unit…
