Once popular grocery chain shutting down last Birmingham stores within days

Winn-Dixie’s final two Birmingham locations are scheduled to close later this month as the company pulls out of Alabama as part of a reorganization plan announced last year.

The chain, which dominated the South for decades, will close its 500 Inverness Corners store on March 21, and the 4476 Montevallo Rd. location on March 22, according to the stores.

“Every impacted associate will be treated with care and respect as we navigate this transition, and we remain committed to serving our customers and communities through the stores’ final days of operations,” the company said in a statement earlier this year…
