COLUMBIANA, Ala. (WIAT) — A Montevallo man was sentenced to 80 years in prison Monday.
According to Shelby County District Attorney Matt Casey, Irwing Ivan Jaramillo-Teodoro was convicted on four counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old in January. The 45-year-old man was first charged in 2016, but he did not appear for his original trial day. Casey stated Jaramillo-Teodoro remained at large for several years before he was captured.

The state presented a victim impact statement and additional evidence at the sentencing hearing. A judge sentenced Jaramillo-Teodoro to 20 years in prison for each offense after hearing evidence from both sides. The sentences are to be served consecutively without the possibility of parole.
“This sentence sends a strong message to all that might commit these offenses in our community that we will not tolerate it,” Casey stated. “We’re thankful that Judge Spann saw fit to impose the maximum allowable sentence, and we hope this will bring closure to our victims.”…
