A Fairfield woman has pleaded guilty in the 2021 slaying of a 76-year-old Bessemer man who authorities say was beaten with a space heater during a dispute over money.
Monyuett Catrice Hinson, 29, originally charged with capital murder in the death of Alverner Blanks, entered a guilty plea Friday to a reduced charge of felony murder. Circuit Judge David Carpenter sentenced her to 24 years in prison. The plea agreement was reached with the consent of the victim’s family. Hinson will receive credit for time already served.
Prosecutors said the fatal attack occurred Sept. 8, 2021, at Blanks’ home in the 2300 block of Holbrook Terrace. Police said Blanks and Hinson were neighbors and acquaintances.
